I am Thankful for These Guys

Before my Uncle Bert passed away last week, I was so looking forward to doing my Thankful Thursday post because I had so much to be thankful for at that time. I was thankful for this first guy, Tony, who was in a very serious car wreck on New Year's weekend. He had a very badly broken ankle and wrist. Last I heard he was in a wheel chair. Tony is my best friend Genie's son. She told me they were coming down here for spring break to my surprise. Her father in is a wheel chair so I was wondering how she was going to manage. Her daughter Jena was driving over from Montgomery so I knew she'd help.

We tossed around places to met and eat, finally deciding on Logan's Roadhouse since they'd never been to one before. Rhett & I got there early to get a table. So you can imagine my surprise, my feelings when I saw Tony walking across that parking lot! I knew he was a walking miracle. Prayers had been answered on his behalf. Jena made him show me his scars. He has a really bad one on his arm, but it is due to the appliance that looked like a long door handle they had to use to immobilize his arm. I did not see the one on his ankle. As always we had a good time and we took photos. The next day I was sending emails out about Tony's improved condition with zeal and getting good feedbacks praising the Lord. So I was very thankful for Tony being there with us.

Then Easter came and I was thankful for my family as always. For my handsome men in my life. All the photos I took turned out really good of all of us except for me with my eyes closed in the bright sunshine and I was equally thankful for that. I just have not had time to print any of them yet.

My Uncle Bert was slowly going downhill daily as his aggressive brain cancer grew. Last Thursday we were called to hospice. That was one of the hardest things I have had to do is watch him struggling, gasping for breath. My cousin Ben was wonderful throught this whole ordeal as I have stated in my previous posts. So I am very thankful for Ben. Everyone needs someone like him in their lives. I hope you have someone like him.

We know Uncle Bert is square dancing in heaven now and smiled down on us the day of his funeral on April Fool's. He must have blown the rain clouds away that special afternoon spent with his family and mine.

I was tested after the funeral when Ben handed the phone to me. It was his step-sister, my cousin Barb, Uncle Bert's daughter who did not come to her own father's funeral. I did not really want to talk to her. In fact, I couldn't believe I was stuck with the phone he just handed me and left and actually talking to her. I don't really recall what all she said now because I was standing in disbelief. But she is the one who will have to live with herself not me. I need to let this go on go on with my life.

Today I am thankful for all the wonderful emails I received from my loving friends. I feel trully blessed to have such loving friends and to know they really, really do love me. That is an awesome feeling. I told them all this in a reply, letting them know just how much I love them in return and what a blessing they are in my life.

P. S. I am also so thankful for my husband who told me it did not matter what day Uncle Bert's funeral was because he would take off work for it and he did. I don't think I could have loved him more at that point. I thanked him as I broke down and cried. He cried when I did at the funeral too and held onto me; comforting me.
